Type-1 hypervisor runs on the bare metal (VMware ESXi, Hyper-V Server). Type-2 runs on top of an OS (VirtualBox).
Snapshots capture VM (Virtual Machine) state — great for change-window safety, terrible as backups (they grow and eventually destroy the VM).
vMotion / Live Migration moves running VMs between hosts with no downtime.
