Overview

Running a migration

  • ▸Discover → design → pilot → migrate → cutover → hypercare.
  • ▸Communication plan beats technical plan — users panic in silence.
  • ▸Always have a rollback. Always.
  • ▸Cutover at a low-traffic window; hypercare = onsite or always-on for 1–2 weeks.

Automation that scales

  • ▸PowerShell modules + parameter validation, not one-off scripts.
  • ▸Graph API (Application Programming Interface) & REST (Representational State Transfer) > UI for M365 (Microsoft 365)/Entra automation.
  • ▸Source control (Git) every script. Code review for anything that mutates.
  • ▸Idempotency: running twice does no extra damage.

Zero Trust networking

'Never trust, always verify' applied to network. Identity-aware proxies (ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access)) replace blanket VPNs. Microsegmentation between workloads. Continuous evaluation, not point-in-time gate. Assume the network is hostile — because it is.

Linux survival kit

  • ▸ssh, scp, sudo, systemctl, journalctl, top, df -h, du -sh.
  • ▸Package managers: apt (Debian/Ubuntu), dnf (RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)/Fedora).
  • ▸Read /var/log/* for almost any service failure.
  • ▸Permissions: rwx user/group/other; chmod 750 is sane default.
